When is Whitetail Deer Hunting Season in Texas?

The general whitetail season in the North Zone starts in early November and extends through early January. It usually starts on or around November 6th and goes through around January 3rd. The South Zone season typically starts on the same day as in the North Zone (starting on or around November 6th) and typically goes about two weeks longer than the North Zone (ending on or around January 16th). Be sure to check exactly what day the season starts and ends for the current year before planning your Texas deer hunt. Each day we can take you on a morning hunt or evening hunt depending on what time of day you prefer, and what time offers the best chance to make a successful harvest.

What type of hunting license do I need to hunt deer in Texas?

Texas residents will need a Resident Hunting License to hunt whitetail deer (and other animals) in the state. There are several different license options, including standard Resident Hunting Licenses, senior licenses, youth licenses, disabled veteran licenses, and combo licenses for hunting and fishing.

Non-residents will need a Non-Resident General Hunting License. Both resident and non-resident licenses can be purchased from retailers throughout the state, or through the Texas License Connection website.

Additionally, every hunter (both Texas residents and out-of-state visitors) born after September 1st, 1971 (9/1/1971) must complete the Hunters Safety Course. Fortunately, this course doesn’t take long to complete. To learn about your options, visit the Hunter Education Course page on the Texas Parks & Wildlife website.

What are the best rifle calibers for whitetail deer hunting?

There’s no single answer when it comes to choosing the right caliber for your hunt. However, some calibers are better suited than others for hunting deer. Popular calibers include the .243 Winchester, 6.5 Grendel or 6.5 Creedmoor, .270 Winchester, 7mm-08 Remington, 7mm, 30-30 Winchester, 30-06, .300 Win Mag, and many others. The area you’re hunting can impact which caliber might be best for your hunt – for example, a larger caliber may be a better choice in areas with a lot of cover. Our experts can let you know what calibers are recommended when helping choose the right ranch and plan your hunt.

Do you offer bow hunting for whitetails?

Our goal at Tafrica Outdoor Adventures is to help you go on the hunt of your dreams. If your dream hunt includes harvesting a whitetail deer with a bow, we would be more than happy to accommodate you and set up a bow hunting adventure you’ll remember for the rest of your life.

What should I bring on my hunting trip?

While we take care of many aspects of your whitetail hunting adventure, there are things you’ll want to bring on your trip to make it as enjoyable as possible. Aside from your hunting license, rifle and ammo (or bow and arrows), you’ll want to bring some extra changes of clothing. Texas weather can be unpredictable, so having a few extra pairs of hunting gear can come in handy. You’ll also want to bring along some coolers for after you’ve harvested your trophy Texas whitetail deer.
